How these guides are written and kept accurate

The rules this publication follows, so readers can judge how much weight to give what they read here. Last updated 2026-10-21.

Sources

Guides are based on primary documentation: what search engines and analytics providers publish about their own products. In this edition that means Google Search Central, Search Console Help, Google Ads Help, Google Analytics Help and Bing Webmaster Tools. Industry commentary, rumours and third-party studies are not used as the basis for any statement.

Where documentation is silent or unclear, the guides say so rather than filling the gap with speculation. Search engines change their systems and documentation, so each guide shows the date its sources were last confirmed and whether a full check against their text is still pending.

Writing

  • Plain language, with technical terms explained the first time they appear.
  • Source material is paraphrased, not copied. Short phrases that must be exact are marked as such.
  • Worked examples are invented to illustrate a point. They describe no real business, and the guides say so by labelling them as examples.

Claims we do not make

The guides do not promise rankings, traffic or sales, do not present made-up results or endorsements, and do not imply any relationship with a search engine. If you find a sentence that seems to do any of these things, it is a mistake and will be corrected.

In one line

If the search engines' own documentation does not support a statement, it does not belong in a guide.

In this first edition, cited documents are named but not linked, so that every page can be reviewed before any outbound link is added. Any links added later will go only to pages that help the reader. Paid or sponsored links, if there ever are any, will be labelled as such on the page and marked with the appropriate link attributes.

Updates and corrections

Guides will be re-checked against their sources when those sources change. A correction that changes the meaning of a guide will be noted at the end of that guide with the date. There is no contact route yet, so corrections currently come from that periodic re-checking rather than from reader reports.

Use of AI

The guides were drafted with an AI system from the cited documents. A line-by-line check against those documents and an independent human editorial review have not been done yet. The about page describes how the site was made.
